In
our ever more complex environment, training on the use of expensive and sometimes dangerous equipment is becoming more and more of an issue. Digital Dataworks is promoting the use of real image training techniques to fulfil the requirements for cost-effective first level familiarisation and part-task training, releasing instructors and equipment from basic training and allowing them to be targeted where they can be most effectively used.

We use a combination of imaging techniques to create easy to use, PC based training software that provides a trainee with an initial familiarisation of the features and layout of 'real' equipment or an environment.

Real image training systems have many advantages over drawn or rendered alternatives - the familiarity gained with the actual colours, textures and lighting go a long way to instilling confidence in the trainee, something hard to achieve with artificial images.

Trainees can achieve high levels of equipment familiarisation from the convenience of a classroom environment so that when they first encounter the real equipment or environment, they are already well on their way to competency in its use.

Our first level training products are aimed at a small, but important part of the wider training programme - initial familiarisation.

When presented with a new piece of equipment, or a new working environment, the first task of the trainee is to learn what everything is and where everything is.

Unless the equipment or environment is duplicated in the training area, this simple process can involve substantial costs and the inevitable interruption of normal working procedures.

The alternative, video and slideshow presentations, are mainly linear mechanisms and do not allow trainees to work at their own pace and competence, instead the training is delivered at a fixed pace leaving some behind and others bored. Our training packages use a combination of interactive immersive imaging and moving object photography along with digitised video sequences to allow trainees to explore and experiment at their own pace, whether in a classroom or in self-study. No special equipment other than a standard mid-range Windows desktop or laptop computer is required.

Our second level part task training products, build on level 1 but add basic functionality to objects - items such as switches, knobs and levers can be virtually 'operated' by the trainee and simple cause and effect demonstrated.
